Riders and horse enthusiasts were at Sport Vlaanderen in Genk in March, for an inspiring seminar with top trainer Jos Kumps. It was a fascinating and educational evening in which his vision on horse training took centre stage.

During the seminar, Jos took the participants through his working method, in which simplicity, logic and respect for the horse are central. Using carefully chosen exercises, he demonstrated how training often seems complex, but can be reduced to clear and simple principles with the right approach.
The seminar not only offered practical insights but also prompted reflection on how riders can approach their training more consciously and purposefully.

Jos Kumps is a top Belgian trainer, best known for his well thought out and clear vision on training show jumping horses. He starts from simplicity, logic and respect for the horse. Instead of focusing on quick fixes, he emphasises strong basic principles, a good understanding of movement, and building up exercises step by step. His approach aims to enable rider and horse to work together optimally, resulting in sustainable progress.
As a trainer, he has guided numerous top riders over the years, including Olympic champion Rodrigo Pessoa, European champion Kevin Staut, world champion Dermott Lennon and former world number one Harrie Smolders. Even today, Jos still enjoys being in the saddle almost every day.
